Success One thing that many successful people have in common is that they have the ability to maintain a positive attitude, regardless of setbacks, disappointments, and failures. It is no secret that our thoughts have an effect on our lives, and positive thoughts propel us forward while negative thoughts tend to keep us down and stagnant. Winston Churchill once said, "A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty." In today’s society, a majority of the population go through their day-to-day lives stuck in negative thinking mindsets. If you take a moment to observe your surroundings while at work, at home, or in public, you’re bound to hear things that stem from negative thinking. These include phrases such as, "I’ll never have enough money," or "I’ll never find my true love," or "I always end up messing up." One reason many are stuck in negative thinking attitudes is because it is easier to think negative. It is easier to stay stuck in negativity than to work at changing a negative mindset to a positive one. Many people don’t even realize their mindset is predominantly negative. If you want to achieve success in life, you must learn to remove negative thoughts and acquire a positive thinking attitude. This can be done with determination and practice. 1) The first thing that you can do is begin to monitor your thoughts and words. Take a few days and evaluate whether your mindset is more positive or negative. You can even write down the negative thoughts that you have. If you’re daring enough, ask those who are closest to you for their opinion regarding your attitude. Those closest to us typically have some insight that we may not have about ourselves. 2) After writing down all of the negative thoughts that you’ve been thinking about, cross them out and write a positive thought that cancels out the negative. For example, if you have the thought, "I’m not good enough to get a promotion," then cross that out and write, "I excel in my job and I will get a promotion." 3) Take that list of positive affirmations and put it in a spot where you will see it every day. You can even add more positive affirmations to that list and read them out loud daily. By doing this, you will re-train your brain and move from a negative mindset to a positive mindset. 4) In addition to reciting positive affirmations, utilize creative visualization to develop a positive mindset as well. If you want to go to college and get a degree, visualize yourself sitting in classes and walking across the platform to receive your degree. If you want to become a professional athlete, visualize yourself playing with the professionals. If you want that job promotion, see yourself sitting in your new office with the promotion. Visualization is a wonderful tool that allows you to get your mind seeing the positive outcome that you want AHEAD OF TIME. 5) If you find yourself hanging around other people who tend to be negative or diminish your goals because they don’t think you can achieve them, consider not hanging out with such people. You want to surround yourself with positive people who will encourage your dreams. You can achieve success by developing a positive thinking attitude, utilizing visualization, and working hard to attain your goals. Begin today by monitoring your mindset to determine if it is positive or negative and get busy re-training those negative thoughts into positive ones.
